The quality of food has not changed a bit since we moved out of the Bay area 31 years ago. Still outstanding!

Great Variety of dishes to choose from. Good location with free parking. Lot could get crowded but there's another lot across the street. Service was pretty bad at first but they assigned another waiter to help with our party of 15. Good call on their part because we never got anything to drink until 45 min after being seated.

Busy place with great views.

Dinner at Top of the Market.It's overpriced & the food is better and cheaper downstairs. It's also bright, and they sat the 6 of us in a table for 4 (expanded) right next to the reception. Really! (Didn't offer to move when I hinted my displeasure. And the restaurant was not even half full during our stay.) Sorry, just not worth it.

Food was good. Service was quick, but the waitress was snarky.

The fish market has become the one place I personally get excited to dine in. The scallops are my personal favorite, and I have never had them anywhere else that are that delicious. The location is great, the service is great, and the food is obviously amazing. I will forever look forward to visiting the San Mateo Fish Market.

I dropped the shop at 4.00pm afternoon all the servers are talking and nobody servers me. After sitting at the table by myself I have to call the server to take my order after long waiting. Simple 6 pieces oyster takes more than 20 minutes. All server and chef are hanging around. Have to leave without take the order. Worst experience ever.

Great service. Cheese bread was delicious. But meals weren't that great. My scallops were undercooked, raw in middle. Shrimp on friend's ceasar salad were really small. Husband's steamed vegetables looked raw. Not awful but wasn't what we expected.

We had excellent service and fresh perfectly prepared seafood. What's even better is that this is the way it always goes here. Its hard to find good service and good food consistently. We have never had anything less.

Great location right on the water with home made clam chowder. The hostess with the mostess could be slightly more professional. Other then that little hiccup food was amazing!

I Love Everything About This Place, I don't know where to start. This is one of our family favorites. Amazing Food, Amazing Customer Service, Amazing Scenery, weather Indoors or Outdoor, your Baby's Car Seat will fit in the booth & Free Parking. Summers was our waitress shes just as Amazing, Patient, Friendly, Kind, & Willing To Do Anything You Ask Without an Attitude. I Love This Restaurant & will Continue To Tell Everybody About It!

The place is nice little hideout. Very cozy looking environment but service is average. Staff is very friendly but food was very average.

Was expecting better prices bring so close to the fishing but All around it was a great meal and a well designed shop with plenty of space to sit and chat, which the acoustics make clear that everyone is doing. So if you are looking for a quiet place don't go during mealtimes. If you want a place with energy, this is a well maintained spot with great food for a lunch or dinner.

Both of us had rockfish and neither of us tasted the mesquite flavoring. No grill marks just beige colored cooked fish. Roasted veges were too black ( purple cauliflower too) and visually unappetizing. Smallest scoop of augratin potatoes I've ever seen. Husband had Cole slaw and although it tasted good, it was not placed in a separate dish and the sauce ran into his potatoes and all over his plate. We noticed a nearby table returned a complete dish and he was substituted a comp salad. Thus the 3 rating

Very disappointed with hostess. Our 1st.time in this place and as we arrived we're 4 hostes by the door.they gave us a bad look without offering anything. I have to asked them for a table. But the good thing was when Carlos the table server took care of us. He recommended few dishes from the many. He was very nice and excelent.

Very disappointing!! The service was horrible & the food & drinks were only okay. The wait staff was not friendly at all. We've been to The Fish Market in San Diego & LOVED it thinking we would have the same experience here. The SD location FAR SURPASSES this one!!!! The best thing about our experience was the view & the weather was fabulous!! We won't be back here😥👎 1⭐

This restaurant has been around for a long time . I love to come here for drinks and apps. My favorite is there crab garlic cheesy bread. They also make good salads and the pasta con nova is delish. cold winter days are coming up and you can stop in or pick up some clam chowder with some french bread.

This is my favorite seafood restaurant hands down. I grew up going to the Fish Market as a child and just celebrated my father's 60th Birthday there today. Always the FRESHEST seafood there is from raw to cooked dishes. Top of the line drinks and desserts as well. You can never go wrong with what you order. Great service and location.

Great place for tasty seafood. Their seafood pasta is my favorite dish. The cioppino is spot on. The grilled fish dishes could be grilled a little less as they dry out by the time it reaches your table. Their service slips a little when they are busy but that's to be expected. The wait times are long if don't make a reservation during busy times so please make a reservation! You will always leave full and satisfied with your wallet slightly lighter.

Brussel sprouts are amazing. Mushrooms were not allowed to sweat enough before being served (very watery). Crab dip is okayThey know how to cook the cheesy break

Days gone bye time will till if they have more days. Need new management. Just poor service. Won't return.

Local sand dabs were not available. Server was efficient and my food came out hot. Had the New England chowder and a half dozen oysters.

The fish is fresh, all the food options I've had (20+ plates) are very good and the view over the lagoon is very nice.

This place has some of the best seafood I've ever had. Definitely a must try!!!

Even in the midst of the C19 scare, last Wednesday N hour before closing, the bar was packed and there were only 2 empty tables on the patio. Great service, predictably tasty food and an all around lovely evening.

Fish Market is a nice chain and I used to always go to the Palo Alto location. Nice to find one in San Mateo with very cozy and unique feel for the interior design.Trout is my fave with tarter sauce.

Great time at the Fish Market. The food was pretty good. I had the stuffed shrimp rissoto and it was good. I loved the tiger shrimp ceviche but it had too much lettuce on the bottom. The smoked salmon was really good too. Overall a great time.

Yumminess especially if you LOVE seafood as much as I do! It can get kinda loud but it's a fun environment. WARNING their bread is AMAZING!! The East Coast Clambake is a seafood lover's DREAM!

Atmosphere is top shelf! Right on the water, wooden deck pretty landscape, fun old time fisherman vibe inside...some of the best fish patters u will find this side of the Bay!

Reliable variety of fresh seafood, and a location that almost feels like you're really on the water. There was a quality dip a year or two ago, both in service and food quality, but they largely seem to addressed it the last couple times I've been. Just remember that as the name states, the fish is the centerpiece. Some of the sides are decidedly uninspired. There is also the option of buying seafood at the counter when you first come in.As mentioned, parking can be challenging during peak hours, especially with the fall festival thing going on next door right now.

One of the best seafood restaurants I visited during my travel in USA. Good ambience. Not sure about during day, but for dinner it was awesome place. Great service. No long wait. Most of the dishes are good for 2 people. Moderately priced. The place also sells fish to cook at home. I would like to visit again this place.

My 30 dollar halibut was awful dry as was my friends halibut.The bread with crab was really good .I must say the service ,staff ,and ambiance was great. I've eaten here before when in town and loved it.

They offer a large variety of delicious food. I like eating here. The employees are always very nice, prices are affordable and the place is always well organised.

Excellent food and beautiful waterfront location. A little pricey but worth it, especially if you like seafood. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Great spot for special occasions or if you don't mind spending a bit more for higher dining.

With a table reservation, it still took 15 minutes to get seated. The kitchen then lost part of our order. Their fish is pretty good, but at the same price you can get better service elsewhere these days.

Always the best calamari steak. Actually no one else does the steak! This is where I take myself for a reward. Also I ordered 2x veg and asked for lemon caper sauce.

A really nice restaurant experience, the staff is very polite and friendly. The food is well done and so tasty and fresh, the oysters and the Calamari steaks are done so well. The outside seating is a plus during warm weather where I've enjoyed the water plains channel view. I would definitely recommend and I will keep returning.
